Evidence-based clinical practice particularly concerning antibiotic use is one of the thrust areas of the department. The department has a robust antibiotic stewardship program to ensure that antibiotics are used with the utmost care and proper justification keeping the overall safety and health of the child in mind. Every effort is made to avoid the misuse of antibiotics at all levels.
The department also has a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and a Neonatal Intensive Unit to cater to the special needs of critically ill children and neonates respectively.

The Department is accredited by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) New Delhi to provide Post-graduate training to doctors since the year 2007. Two candidates – one direct and one post-DCH - are admitted each year. The PG students take part inpatient management, academic activities, and research work. They also attend Paediatric conferences in the city, state, and national level and present papers.
